Storing Your Promotional Products By Tina Rinaudo After you've debated, decided, and ordered your promotional products, you may think the work is done-but you&rsre wrong! Chances are that you’ll have quite a few boxes of items arriving in your office soon, and you need to figure out how to store these items. In fact, this aspect of promotional products is more important than you may initially think-if you’ve ordered in bulk, you may need to store items for a number of years. Here are just a few things to consider:
•How much space do you need? If possible, find out the weight and exact size of your items. If they are heavy, shelving may not be your best option. Remember, even if you have heavy-duty shelves, you’ll have to lift the boxes up and down whenever you need items, and so the floor might make more sense.
•Are the items easy to break? Promotional products like mugs have to be stored differently than pens or plastic cups. Remember to label all boxes as fragile so that they aren't accidentally thrown around while doing inventory or by a new employee.
•How will the items be shipped? If possible, open each box and count your items to make sure you’ve been shipped the appropriate number. Of course, this may not be necessary or possible if you've ordered 10,000 pencils! After opening the boxes, will they be sturdy enough to continually store the items. If not, how will you store them?
•Are the promotional products sensitive to temperature? Most items will be fine if stored in an attic, cellar, or garage climate, but if you live in very hot weather, be aware that some items may melt, especially when may from plastic. Some items may also expand or crack in the changing temperatures, and check with the manufacturer to make sure that heat-sensitive color-changers won't be affected.

•How long will you have to store these items? If you’re planning on using all of the items at one shot, you may be able to simply keep the boxes in your office for a few days. However, if you want to keep promotional products on hand all the time, or if you’ve ordered enough to last for a few years, you’ll need to devote a specific space to these items.
•Will any part of your product expire? Be very careful if you’ve ordered anything edible, such as filled mint tins or personalized candy. Food items always expire, and so each box should be clearly marked with a throw-out date. Otherwise, you could make people very ill, as well as have a lawsuit or two on your hands! Storing promotional products is not something many think about, but taking a moment to consider now will make your day easier when these boxes arrive. Promotional products can truly boost your sales, so no matter how much storage space you have, look for products that work for you.
